Hi, I'm Ben, and I'm testing for my first-degree Black Belt in November. My testing requirements include, among other things, memorizing A LOT of curriculum, completing 40 hours of volunteer service, and a community service project. For my volunteer hours, I cleaned up a beach, helped neighbors, and volunteered at the Food Bank for Larimer County. I enjoyed volunteering at the food bank so much that for my community service project,
I'm hosting a food and fund drive. My goal is to raise $500 in financial donations and 50 lbs. of food.
In Larimer County, it is estimated that 1 in 11 people face food insecurity, which is about 40,000 people. 1 in 8 of those people is a child. The Food Bank for Larimer County distributes an average of 10 million pounds of food annually through programs like their Kids Cafe, a summer and school-year program that provides free, nutritious meals and snacks to children.
