No one should have to go hungry. But in Larimer County, almost 11 percent of the population may be facing food insecurity. That is more than 40,000 people, a number equal to the population of an entire city.
Even more members of our community may now be at risk of food insecurity, as November SNAP payments are currently on hold. The federal government shutdown means Colorado cannot send benefits to approximately 615,000 Coloradans, including 34,000 Larimer County residents, who rely on SNAP.
The Food Bank for Larimer County is committed to providing food to all in need through community partnerships and hunger-relief programs. Last year the Food Bank distributed enough food for almost 10.1 million meals. Approximately 2.5 million pounds of food were distributed to the Nourishing Network, which consists of almost 130 local nonprofits. Collectively, the Food Bank for Larimer County helped these organizations save more than $4.6 million as they worked to distribute food to our community.
